"Aspect: Shiny"

So I'm surfin' around, and I see a link to a new A-ha video from their latest album, so I click on it and do the silly registration thing, and I watch it, and I think: goodness, they were only a few years younger than I am now, when I first started listening to them about 20 years ago.

Twenty. Years. Ago.

They still look pretty good, those Norwegian lads. Despite lacking Morten's solo stuff, I've been keeping up with their albums all this time - I even have a few of the earlier ones on cassette and vinyl. I think I have two or three copies of Cry Wolf on tape alone, because I kept wearing it out, listening to "Manhattan Skyline" over and over again.

The video: it's for "Analogue," which is also the title of the album, and it's all black and white and sort of artsy, and the music production is very radio-friendly, and Morten sounds good, and then! And then! The sun in the sky, which is all tinted yellow, and therefore portentious against the colorless world over which it rules, starts, I don't know, shedding itself or burning part of the power plant the band is playing in (industrial environment = edgy and cool), and so of course Morten goes over and touches the gooey sun stuff on the ground, and then he starts drawing with it.

Dude. It's Morten and the Golden Crayon.

He even draws a city at one point, all these cartoony buildings, right as he sings, "All I want you to know I love you / All I need is the time to show you how I feel" -- is it wrong that maybe I swooned? It was a tiny swoon. But a swoon, nonetheless.
